SAN ANTONIO - Three goals in the second half helped propel the St. Mary's Men's Soccer team to a 4-0 victory over DBU at Sigma Beta Chi Field on Friday night. The Rattlers move to 6-2 overall on the season and 5-2 in Lone Star Conference action. The win secured St. Mary's a spot in the four-team Lone Star Conference Tournament.
St. Mary's peppered the Patriots keeper with 27 shots and 12 on goal, both season-high totals for the Rattlers.
St. Mary's narrowly missed goals on multiple occasions in the first 45 minutes.
Cian Foley was able to get one past the keeper in the 44th minute as he took the pass from
Dani Gimena and buried it for the game-winner.
In the 57th minute,
Sebastian Rivera flicked one over the DBU defense and
Alonso Rodriguez was on the other end for the finish, putting St. Mary's up 2-0.
Deni Cresto scored his second goal of the season in the 59th minute after he took a touch from Gimena and fired a rocket into the back of the net. Gimena picked up his second assist of the match.
The fourth and final goal for the Rattlers came on a corner kick as Cresto put in a bending service and
Lewis Wilson finished with the header.
It's the second time this season the Rattler have scored four goals, with the first time coming against Trinity University in an exhibition.
St. Mary's will close out their regular season on Tuesday as they travel to Laredo to take on Texas A&M International.
