Box Score KINGSVILLE, Texas – The St. Mary's Women's Tennis team picked up a Lone Star Conference victory on Wednesday night as the Rattlers, ranked No. 3 in the latest regional rankings, move to 11-3 on the season and 3-0 in conference action with the 6-1 win over the Javelinas.
The doubles duo of
Marina Vigil and
Abigail Csengery were the first to finish in doubles action as the two picked up a 6-3 victory at the No. 3 line.
Maria Garcia and
Elena Munoz were next to finish, clinching the doubles points with a 7-5 win at No. 1 doubles. The Javelinas won at No. 2 doubles, edging out
Ashley Penshorn and
Gabi Ioannou, 7-6.
Penshorn put the Rattlers up 2-0 as the junior cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 victory at the No. 1 line. At the No. 2 line,
Maria Garcia earned the Rattlers another point, winning 6-3, 6-3.
Finishing third and clinching the match for St. Mary's was Csengery who won the opening set at No. 6 singles, 6-2 and outlasted her opponent in the second, winning, 7-5. At No. 4 singles, Ioannou picked up a 6-3, 6-3 win, giving St. Mary's a 5-0 match lead.
Vigil came from behind after losing the opening set, 6-3 to win 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 5 line. Munoz rounded out singles competition at the No. 5 line. Munoz dropped the first set, 7-5 and came back to win the second, 7-6. With a 10-8 win in the third set, Texas A&M-Kingsville picked up their lone singles win of the match.
The Rattlers will return to the court on Friday as they travel to San Angelo to take on Angelo State.
