Men's Soccer Has Winning Streak Snapped by Patriots

SAN ANTONIO - The St. Mary's Men's Soccer team saw its three-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday as the Rattlers fell to the UT Tyler Patriots, 1-0 to fall to 5-2 overall on the season and 4-2 in Lone Star Conference action.

The Rattlers applied pressure early to the UT Tyler defense as Deni Cresto fired a rocket on goal, but the Tyler keeper made the save. Just a minute later, Dani Gimena tested the Patriots keeper with a shot on goal but once again the Rattlers were turned away.

Alain Peralt put a header on net off the St. Mary's corner in the seventh minute but could not sneak one past the keeper, keeping it a 0-0 match.

In the 32nd minute, the UT Tyler Patriots were driving down the near sideline and crossed a ball into the box. The ball deflected off the St. Mary's defender and found the back of the net, giving the Patriots a 1-0 advantage on the own-goal.

St. Mary's took 10 shots, putting five of them on frame in the opening half.

The Patriots defense tightened things up in the second half, allowing the Rattlers seven total shots and just one on goal.

The loss puts St. Mary's in third place in the conference with two matches to play. The Rattlers will host DBU on Friday in a makeup match from the originally scheduled match on February 23. The match is slated to kickoff at 5:30 p.m.
