SAN ANTONIO – The St. Mary's Women's Tennis continued its winning ways on Saturday as the Rattlers cruised past the Patriots of the University of Texas at Tyler for their third Lone Star Conference victory of the season.
Maria Garcia and Elena Munoz got things started for the Rattlers in the No. 1 doubles spot. The duo blanked their opponent, 6-0. The doubles tandem is now 3-0 on the season at the No. 1 doubles line.
St. Mary's dominated the singles action, winning all six matches. Penshorn and Garcia were the first two singles to score points for the Rattlers as Penshorn won, 6-1, 6-2 and Garcia 6-2, 6-1.
At the No. 5 singles line, Munoz won the first set 6-4 before shutting out her opponent in the second, winning 6-0. Vigil picked up her ninth win of the season at the No. 3 line, defeating her opponent 6-2, 6-2.
Gabi Ioannou and Csengery both picked up three-set victories at the No. 4 and No. 6 lines, respectively. Ioannou won the first set 6-0 before falling 6-0. The sophomore won the decisive third set, 10-7. Csengery grided out a 6-4 victory in the opening set before drooping the second, 6-3. Csengery picked up a 10-5 victory in the third to claim the victory.
The Rattlers travel to Kingsville, Texas on Wednesday, March 31 for a LSC contest against the Javelinas.
