AUSTIN– The St. Mary's Women's Soccer team suffered a 3-0 setback on Wednesday night as the Rattlers fell to the St. Edward's Hilltoppers in Lone Star Conference action. St. Mary's falls to 4-4 over all on the season and 1-3 in league play.
St. Mary's took eight shots, four of which were on frame.
The Rattlers first scoring opportunity came early on as
Megan Copeland put a header on goal in the 14th minute but St. Edward's keeper, Meghan Dunning made the save. Two minute later, Copeland put another shot on goal but once again was turned away by Dunning.
The St. Mary's defense was stout in the first half, allowing no shots on goal from the Hilltoppers. St. Edward's narrowly missed taking a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute when Wren Blanchette hit the crossbar with the final shot of the half from either team.
It was a scoreless game after 45 minutes of action.
St. Edward's took a 1-0 lead in the 58th minute on a penalty kick goal and added another goal three minutes later to make it a 2-0 match.
Alexis Lawrence put a shot on goal in the 67th minute but was unable to beat Dunning.
Gabby Olsen had the final scoring chance for the Rattlers in the 89th minute but Dunning made the save to secure the clean sheet.
The Hilltoppers added another goal in the 89th minute to make it 3-0.
St. Mary's keeper,
Cameron Koerner made four saves in the loss.
The Rattlers will wrap up the regular season next week as they travel to Lubbock Christian on Wednesday, March 31.
