SAN ANTONIO – The fans at The Park at StMU were given bonus softball on Friday evening as the second game of the doubleheader went 11 innings, however St. Mary's lost both contests 6-2 and 7-3 against Cameron.
The Rattlers (9-11, 5-5 Lone Star Conference) and the Aggies (13-9, 4-6 Lone Star) were tied at 3-3 after the fifth frame of the nightcap and remained that way until the top of the 11
th when Cameron struck for four runs and the win.
Junior
Jayme Johns (Elgin, Texas) had two of team's five hits in the first game and she was on base three times after drawing a walk as well. Junior
Victoria Aldridge (Elgin) was 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Freshman
Sara Robertson fell to 2-3 on the season after giving up two earned runs on seven hits with one walk and two strikeouts through 3.1 innings.
In the second game, senior
Amber Gonzales (Austin, Texas) paced the offense with a 3-for-4 night. She added a walk, run scored, RBI and 10 putouts. Her fellow Austin native,
Alex McLennan was credited with the loss. McLennan pitched the final 4.2 innings, collecting four runs on nine hits to move to 4-4 on the season.
St. Mary's hosts Lone Star Conference preseason favorite Oklahoma Christian on Sunday. Game one is scheduled to start at noon.
