Women's Soccer Takes No. 15 Angelo State to Overtime Before Falling 2-1

SAN ANTONIO – The St. Mary's Women's Soccer team gave No. 15 Angelo State all they could handle on Wednesday night as the Rattlers eventually fell to the Rambelles in overtime at Sigma Beta Chi Field.

The loss drops the Rattlers record to 4-3-0 overall and 1-2-0 in Lone Star Conference action. The Rambelles leave San Antonio, 5-0-0 and 4-0-0 in league play.

St. Mary's applied pressure to the Rambelles defense firing two shots in the first 15 minutes of action. Angelo State also tested the St. Mary's defense and goalkeeper, Cameron Koerner early, taking three shots in the opening 24 minutes, two of which were turned away by Koerner.

Miranda Narvaez put a shot on frame in the 36th minute but the Rambelles keeper made a save to keep the game scoreless.

St. Mary's had a free kick opportunity in the 41st minute and the attempt was cleared by the Rambelle defense. After the clearance, Rylie Kieny played a long ball down the near sideline to Narvaez who beat the defender and keeper to give the Rattlers a 1-0 lead just before the break.

Just three minutes into the second half, Valerie Solis scored the equalizer for the Rambelles.

Neither team was able to find the game-winner, forcing overtime, a first for the Rattlers this season.

Seven minutes into the extra period, Angelo State scored the golden goal to end the match with a final score of 2-1.

The Rattlers will be back in action next Wednesday as they travel to St. Edward's University to take on the Hilltoppers.
