KINGSVILLE, Texas – The St. Mary's Baseball team dropped its first game of a three-game set against the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas on Friday night. The Rattlers offense was silenced as they were shutout for just the second time this season.
Connor Schmidt got the ball for the Rattlers and the junior tossed six innings, allowing six runs on seven hits, walking four and striking out five. Schmidt took the loss, dropping his record to 3-3 on the season.
St. Mary's had a scoring opportunity in the second inning as
Johnny Hernandez reached on a one-out single and would move to third on a two-out double from
Brandon Broughton.
Shawn Tober came to the plate with runners at second and third but grounded out to end the threat.
The Javelinas plated two in the second and three in the third to take a 5-0 lead.
Mitchell Caskey reached on an error in the top of the sixth and would move to second on a single by
Brian Juarez. The next two Rattler batters were retired, stranding two runners on base.
The St. Mary's offense did not get anything going for the remainder of the game, falling 7-0 to the Javelinas.
The two teams will be back in action tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at 2:00 p.m.
