SAN ANTONIO – Four Rattlers hit double figures in kills as the St. Mary's Volleyball team pushed undefeated Texas A&M-Kingsville to five sets on Sunday evening.
Junior outside hitter
Alissa Tolbert (San Antonio) tied her season high and led the match with 20 kills and she led the Rattlers (2-5, 2-5 Lone Star) with 13 digs, tallying her sixth double-double in seven matches. Freshmen
Mia Martinez (Orlando, Fla.) and
Julia Aleman (San Antonio) each recorded 11 kills and junior
Julia Deais (San Antonio) added 10 in the loss.
St. Mary's has already played four five-set matches in 2021, falling Sunday 28-26, 13-25, 25-19, 20-25, 8-15 to the Javelinas (7-0, 7-0 Lone Star).
Senior
Catherine Cruz (San Antonio) posted 11 digs and has recorded double-digits in all seven matches and has a streak of 14-consecutive with 10 or more. Freshman setter
Aislan Lennon (Houston) notched a career-best 43 assists as senior setter
Lindsey Kaufman (Coral Springs, Fla.) missed most of the final three sets due to injury – however she returned at the end of the fifth.
The Rattlers host St. Edward's on Tuesday and Wednesday with both matches beginning at 6 p.m.
INDIVIDUAL PLAYER & TEAM NOTES
- Alissa Tolbert tied her season high with 20 kills. She also led with 13 digs and now has six double-doubles in seven matches in 2021.
- Cat Cruz has totaled 10 or more digs in all seven matches after tallying 11 against the Javelinas – and she now has a streak of 14 straight in double figures.
- Aislan Lennon's family got the rare treat of seeing both their college daughters play on the same day as Aislan's older sister Nicole is a junior at Rice and they defeated UTSA in five sets earlier in the day.
- St. Mary's has played four five-set matches in the seven matches of 2021. Since Stephanie Armstrong took over the program midway through 2017, the Rattlers have played in 20 that have gone the distance.
- Tolbert had 35 serve receptions against the Javelinas without committing an error, while Cruz passed 21 serves without being aced.
