AUSTIN – Three Rattlers scored in double-figures on Wednesday night as the St. Mary's Men's Basketball team fell 87-70 at Lone Star Conference rival, St. Edward's. The loss evened the season series as the Rattlers defeated the Hilltoppers on February 12 in San Antonio.
Tyler Caron led the Rattlers with a career-high 22 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including a perfect 3-of-3 from long distance.
Mamady Djikine recorded his fifth double-double of the year and third straight as the junior finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Mile McDougal added 11 points in the loss.
St. Mary's trailed early but took their first lead of the game when McDougal knocked down a triple to give the Rattlers a 16-15 advantage. Caron added a jumper on the next possession to extend the lead to three points.
The Hilltoppers went on a what looked to be a back-breaking 13-0 run that lasted nearly five minutes but St. Mary's answered with a 10-3 run of their own to keep things close with five minutes left to play in the opening half. St. Edward's outscored the Rattlers 12-6 over the final five minutes to take a 43-34 lead into the locker room.
The second half was all St. Edward's as they led from start to finish.
St. Mary's will return to action on Friday and Saturday as they travel to Oklahoma Christian to take on the Eagles. All the action can be found on the
