THE RECAP
The Rattlers fell for the third straight game, this time losing to UT-Tyler, 3-0. St. Mary's gave up a trio of second half goals to fall to the Patriots and put their playoff hosting bid in jeopardy.
After a scoreless first half, the Patriots cracked the scoreboard in the 53rd minute. They would add two more scores in 69th and 85th minutes to put the Rattlers away. The Rattler attack had plenty of chances, lobbing 18 shots down range at the UT-Tyler defense. However, the Patriots were able to hold the Rattlers to just seven shots on goal, saving all seven.
St. Mary's will now need to win their season finale over Texas A&M International to guarantee a hosting slot in the first round of the LSC Tournament. Six teams make the first round with the 3 and 4 seeds hosting the 5 and 6 seeds.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW
- St. Mary's has lost three in a row for the first time all year.
- The Rattlers continue to shell opposing defenses, but have struggled to turn them into quality chances over the losing streak.
- For the first time all season, the Rattlers did not record a save.
HEAD COACH JOHNNY CLIFFORD ON THE LOSS:
"We were just not good enough tonight and we are capable of much more. We lacked creativity tonight and didn't play with enough confidence. We need to get back on track as quickly as this team is much better than our recent results. It's very disappointing, but we will use this to get better. Better days to come!"
