Volleyball Gives ASU All They Can Handle

SAN ANTONIO – The St. Mary's Volleyball team gave sixth-ranked Angelo State all it could handle on Friday evening, but lost in four sets, 25-20, 12-25, 23-25, 22-25.

The Rattlers (13-10, 7-9 Lone Star Conference) out-blocked the Belles (22-3, 15-1 Lone Star) 11-10 and matched them in aces with five, but couldn't quite finish things off.

Senior middle blocker Julia Deais (San Antonio) led the team in kills for the second time this season, getting 10 and she also posted a team-high seven blocks. Freshman setter Cali Nims (Corpus Christi, Texas) had the team's lone double-double with 18 assists and a career-high 17 digs, while libero Gabi Sandoval (San Antonio) recorded her ninth 20-dig match of the year with a team-high 23. Senior Alissa Tolbert (San Antonio) also collected double digits in digs with 11.

Freshman Alicia Virthe (Orlando, Fla.) made her first appearance since Sept. 25, returning with four kills and a block.

StMU closes out the regular season on Saturday at 2 p.m. against Lubbock Christian for Senior Day. The Lady Chaps defeated St. Edward's in five sets in Austin on Friday evening.
