THE RECAP
No. 24 St. Mary's lost their second game in a row on Saturday night, this time falling to Lubbock Christian, 4-2. The Rattlers got off to a slow start, allowing two goals to the Chaps in the first 21 minutes. Alonso Rodriguez fired back just nine seconds into the second half, giving the Rattlers life and drawing within one goal.
Despite the new energy, Lubbock Christian found the back of the net in the 57th minute when Niklas Neumann scored his first goal of the season. The Rattlers once against drew within one after Deni Cresto scored off a beautiful free kick that perfectly snuck into the upper right corner of the goal.
Still, the Rattlers allowed one final goal on a breakaway by the Chaps to seal the deal.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW
- With the loss, the Rattlers drop from second into a tie for third with inactive West Texas A&M. Only four teams make the conference tournament.
- Alonso's sixth goal of the season gives him the outright team lead in 2021.
- The Rattlers outshot the Chaps, 14-9, but were unable to create quality chances on a consistent basis.
