THE RECAP
No. 24 St. Mary's dropped a tightly contested game to No. 7 Midwestern State on Wednesday evening, 2-1. The Rattlers fell behind 2-0 early and, despite their best efforts, were unable to complete the late comeback.
The first half belonged to the Mustangs as they scored their two goals in the first 22 minutes. Trevor Amann, the LSC leader in goals scored, added another one to his total just 17 minutes into the game.
In the second half, St. Mary's got a goal from preseason Defensive Player of the Year, Liam Morrison. Morrison scored off his right foot to give the Rattlers hope. In the end, however, St. Mary's saw their seven-game winning streak come to an end.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW
- With the loss, the Rattlers are now in second place in the conference.
- The Rattlers were outshot, 15-13, by the Mustangs.
- For one of the few times this season, St. Mary's was held with fewer than five corner kicks in the game (3).
HEAD COACH JOHNNY CLIFFORD ON THE CLOSE LOSS
"Football is a really cruel game at times. Tonight, we were very good. We made a few mistakes that cost us the game, but I thought the guys were brave and played well. We were very unlucky not to get more out of the game. We will see those guys again down the line, and we are excited to get this one back."
