Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Rattlers Wrangle No. 18 Buffs, 2-1, to Sweep Season Series

THE RECAPĀ
In one of the wildest games of the season, the St. Mary's Rattlers upset No. 18 West Texas A&M for the second time this year, beating the Buffs in 2OT, 2-1. The Buffs ended the game with an own goal with only 20 seconds left in the match. The win gives the Rattlers (10-3, 3-0) a share of first place in the conference standings and extends their winning streak to six games.

In the rematch between two LSC titans, the Rattlers scored first when Erwin Regules fired his fifth goal of the season into the back of the net. Regules, who now owns the team lead in goals scored, capitalized on his only shot of the night. Erwin was assisted by Cian Foley.

West Texas A&M responded just 22 seconds later to tie the game at 1-1. From that point on, it was a defensive grudge match. Each team registered double-digit shot totals, but failed to efficiently put balls on frame.

After fighting to what was presumed to be another stalemate, West Texas A&M accidentally headed a ball over the head of their net minder to walk it off for the Rattlers. They were 20 seconds away from a draw.

THREE THINGS TO KNOWĀ
- The Rattlers outshot the Buffs, 15-14, and only faced two balls on net defensively.
- StMU dominated the corner kicking totals, 7-3.
- The Rattlers have now won back-to-back games over WT for the first time in program history, and have made Canyon home away from home, winning each of their last three trips out west.

HEAD COACH JOHNNY CLIFFORD ON WINNER
"Really proud of the guys tonight. It wasn't our best night of play, but we hung in there and fought hard. I thought we created the better opportunities consistently throughout the game. We will enjoy the win tonight, and then we'll focus on defending home field on Saturday. Come on the Rattlers!"

UP NEXTĀ
The Rattlers return to Sigma Beta Chi Field for a game against Oklahoma Christian on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 5pm.
