Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Comeback Falls Short For Women's Hoops

SAN ANTONIO – The St. Mary's Women's Basketball made a late push, but couldn't quite mount the comeback against Angelo State on Friday evening, 59-47.

The Rattlers (1-6, 1-6 Lone Star) trailed by as many as 20 midway through the fourth quarter and cut the deficit to eight, but didn't get any closer as the Rambelles (1-3, 1-3 Lone Star) made a couple three-pointers late to push the final score back to 12.

Playing without senior Hannah Wilson through much of the second and third quarters, the Rattlers offense turned to sophomore Natalia Ryng (Gdynia, Poland) who scored a career-best 10 points and senior Mya Culiver (Rockwall, Texas) tied her for the team lead with 10 points. Culiver also grabbed a career-best eight rebounds, while senior Audrey Wandji (Houston) tied for game-high honors with 10 boards.

Redshirt sophomore Brianna Ford (San Antonio) notched a career-high four steals, while Culiver paced the squad with four assists and four different Rattlers each had a blocked shot.

A trio of Belles scored in double figures, led by Sawyer Lloyd with 18 and Lana Marov recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Wilson returned to the game after she and Aleesha Orange collided under the Rattlers basket in the second quarter and ended the game with seven points and five rebounds in 18 minutes.

St. Mary's again scored more points in the paint than the opposition, 26-24 and the Rattlers' bench tallied four more than the Belles', 11-7.

The Rattlers and Belles meet again on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Bill Greehey Arena as the Blue & Gold look to snap a two-game losing skid.
