SAN ANTONIO – Miles McDougal scored 12 of his team-high 16 points in the second half including a pair of free throws with less than a second on the clock to seal the 69-68 victory over Angelo State.
Four other Rattlers finished in double figures including
Mamady Djikine and
Tyler Caron with 13 each and
Caleb Jordan and
Norman Beckford with 11.
The Rattlers got off to a hot start from long distance as
Tyler Caron knocked down his first three attempts of the game.
Caleb Jordan jumped in on the action knocking down his first try, making it a perfect 4-of-4 start for St. Mary's.
Both teams led by as many as six in the opening frame but over the final 11 minutes of the half, neither team led by more than three points.
Michael Underwood hit a jumper with 1:32 left but the Rams answered with a jumper of their own to knot the score at 34 heading into the break.
Angelo State controlled most of the second half, leading by as many as nine points. Beckford had an enormous tip-in dunk that swayed the momentum to the Rattlers and sparked a 10-2 run over the final 3:49 seconds of the game.
St. Mary's matched their season-high with seven made three-point field goals in the win. The Rattlers forced the Rams into 18 turnovers that results in 19 points.
The Rattlers and Rams will return to action tomorrow at Bill Greehey Arena. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
