St. Mary's is led by veteran head coach Jason Martens who enters his 15th season with the Rattlers. Martens led the Rattlers to a 14-14 overall record and a Lone Star Conference Tournament berth in 2019-20, all while being crowned regular season co-divisional champions.

A junior-led team last season, the Rattlers graduated just one senior and look to improve on a solid start in the Lone Star Conference. St. Mary's has three newcomers in Natalia Ryng, Maya Simon, and Juliett Martinez

Hannah Wilson returns for her senior campaign and looks to build off of last year where she averaged a double-double with 11.5 points and 10.5 rebounds, earning her an All-Conference selection. The Rattlers will look to sophomore Briley Perkins who saw significant minutes during her freshman season, logging 22 starts and averaging 22.3 minutes per contest.

Lubbock Christian finished the 2019-20 season with a 28-3 overall record, winning the Lone Star Conference Tournament. The Lady Chaps were the top pick in this year's LSC Preseason Poll and came in as the third-ranked team in the country in the D2SIDA Preseason Top-25 Poll.

Lubbock Christian has owned the series, beating the Rattlers 16 times in 19 tries, including six straight. St. Mary's last win against the Lady Chaps came on New Year's Eve in 2016 as the Rattlers won in San Antonio.
