LUBBOCK, Texas – Kobe Magee poured in a career-high 32 points on Thursday night as St. Mary's Men's Basketball fell to Lubbock Christian, 87-82. Magee was efficient from the floor as he connected on 11-of-15 from the field, including 10 three-pointers. The Rattlers fall to 9-9 overall on the season and 5-7 in Lone Star Conference action.
Markques Houston and
Curtlon Wesley joined Magee in double figures as Houston finished with 14 while Wesley chipped in with 10 points.
St. Mary's shot 53 percent from the field and 42 percent from long distance.
HOW IT HAPPENED
St. Mary's hung around early but an 8-0 run from Lubbock Christian put the Rattlers behind by 11 points with 9:33 left to play in the opening half. Over the next 2:33, St. Mary's was able to cut their deficit to four points as
Noah Laing capped off a 9-2 Rattlers run with a three at the 7:00 mark. Points were hard to come by for both teams over the final five minutes of the half as the Chaps and Rattlers combined for just nine points during the stretch. Lubbock Christian carried a 40-28 advantage into the locker room.
LCU scored the first bucket of the second frame to put the Chaps up by 14 but
Emmanuel Ewuzie started a 6-0 St. Mary's run to trim the LCU lead to nine points but the Rattlers defense could not get the stops they needed. Lubbock Christian maintained a double-digit lead until the final minute of the game when Magee scored nine points over the final 1:17 of the game to make it a five-point game.
The Rattlers outscored the Chaps 54-47 in the second half and converted six of their final eight field goal attempts.
