Men's Basketball Win Streak Ends with Loss to Javelinas

SAN ANTONIO – Four players scored in double figures on Saturday as the St. Mary's Men's Basketball team saw its three-game winning streak snapped, falling to Texas A&M Kingsville by a score of 83-72.

For the fifth straight game, Caleb Jordan notched double figures with a team-high 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting including 5-of-7 from long distance. Kobe Magee also recorded his fifth straight double figure scoring effort as he added 11 points, playing the entire 40 minutes of the contest. Markques Houston contributed 15 points while Dylan Isenhower added 10 off the bench for the Rattlers.

St. Mary's committed just nine turnovers in the contest and dished out 14 assists, their sixth straight game with a positive assist-to-turnover ratio. The Rattlers shot 43.9 percent from the field and 44.4 percent from deep while the Javelinas connected on 54.4 percent from the field and 50 percent from beyond the arc.

HOW IT HAPPENED
It was a slow start for both sides to open the contest as the teams combined for just nine points through the first four minutes of the contest. At the under-16 media timeout, the Rattlers held a 6-3 advantage.

Dylan Isenhower gave the Rattlers their first double digit lead of the contest at the 11:11 mark, putting St. Mary's in front 17-7. Two possessions later a layup from Lamont Traylor put the Rattlers ahead by 12 with just under ten minutes left to play in the half. St. Mary's remained in control and kept the Javelinas from getting any closer than eight points for the rest of the half. The Rattlers went into the break with a 33-25 lead.

In the first two minutes of the second half the Javelinas used an 8-1 run to cut their deficit to just one point, eventually taking the lead with 15:42 on the clock. Texas A&M Kingsville continued to build on the lead, leading by 10 with 9:05 left to play. However, the Rattlers continued to battle back using an 11-4 run to get within three. Jordan accounted for nine of the 11 points during the run, knocking down three straight triples to keep St. Mary's in the contest.

Texas A&M Kingsville answered every St. Mary's run down the stretch and was able to hold off the Rattlers for the rest of the contest.

The Rattlers fall to 9-8 overall on the season and 5-6 in Lone Star Conference action.
