SAN ANTONIO – The St. Mary's Men's Basketball team picked up their third consecutive win on Thursday night as they cruised past Lone Star Conference foe, Texas A&M International by a score of 72-48. It's the fourth time in five meetings the Rattlers have taken down the Dustdevils.
The win improves the Rattlers' record to 9-7 overall and 5-5 in Lone Star Conference action while the Dustdevils fall to 2-13 and 0-10 in LSC play.
Three Rattlers scored in double figures led by
Kobe Magee (San Antonio) and
Caleb Jordan (Midlothian, Texas) who each scored 15 points.
Dylan Isenhower (Abilene, Texas) chipped in 10 points while
Markques Houston led the team with 10 rebounds.
St. Mary's cashed in on TAMIU turnovers as they scored 19 points off of 16 Dustdevil mishaps. The Rattlers converted 20-of-23 free throw opportunities while TAMIU made just six of their 15 attempts from the charity stripe.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 13-8 early in the first quarter the Rattler offense caught fire and went on a 14-0 run capped off by a triple from
Noah Laing to put St. Mary's in front 22-13 midway through the first frame. The Rattlers remained in front the rest of the half and a pair of free throws from Jordan gave St. Mary's a 10-point advantage heading into the break.
Texas A&M International was able to cut their deficit to six points in the early goings of the second half but the Rattlers answered with an 8-0 run to regain control of the contest. St. Mary's saw their lead increase throughout the half, leading by as many as 26 in the final minute.
