No. 25 Rattlers Drop First Match of the Season to Mountain Lions

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The No. 25-ranked Rattlers suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs on Friday night by a score of 1-0. 
 
The aggressive St. Mary's attack put their first shot of the on frame as Marlon Flores Flores struck one low that was corralled by the UCCS keeper at the 12:03 mark. At 35:42, Jesus Valenzuela had an opportunity on goal, but once again was denied by the Mountain Lions' keeper to keep the match scoreless. 
 
Colorado at Colorado Springs outshot the Rattlers in the opening frame, taking 10 shots but were unable to find the frame. St. Mary's fired four total shots in the first half. 
 
The match remained scoreless until the 78:51 mark when UCCS' Sam Bonano found the back of the net on the Mountain Lions' 20thand final shot of the night to give his squad a 1-0 advantage. 
 
Facing their first deficit of the season with just 12 minutes left in regulation, the Rattlers took four more shots, two on goal, but could not find the equalizer. St. Mary's finished the match taking 12 shots, six of which were on goal. 
 
The Rattlers fall to 2-1 on the season and will close out their Colorado road trip with a match against Fort Lewis College on Sunday. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. CT.
