Men's Tennis earns 3-0 conference record after win over Newman

ARLINGTON, Texas - The Rattler's continued their win streak going 3-0 in the Heartland conference after a 4-1 victory over the Newman Jets on Friday at the Arlington Tennis Center.

St. Mary's had a slow start in the double's competition, with the top court of Bojan Popovic and Jeremiah Gonzalez dropping the match 6-2. On court No. 2, the pair of Jose Antelo and Brendan Brown came out on top, defeating their opponents 6-3. The clinch for the doubles point came down to the No. 3 court of sophomore duo Alex Gee and Sai Konakanchi. The pair was in a tight battle against the Jets, unfortunately, Gee and Konakanchi couldn't pull the match through and lost in a close match 7-6.

The Rattler's were quick to bounce back in the singles action, not dropping a match. First off of the court was redshirt junior Bojan Popovic, winning 6-0 6-2 against Lauri Soome at the No. 2 spot. At the No. 1 and No. 4 positions, Jerimiah Gonzalez and Jose Antelo swept their opponents in straight sets. At the No. 5 spot, sophomore Alex Gee pulled the Rattlers through, clinching 6-3, 6-2.

Doubles Competition:
1. Justo/Soome (NU) def. Gonzalez/Popovic (STMU) 6-2
2. Crawford/Pusztay (NU) lost to Antelo/Brown (STMU) 3-6
3. Antelj/Miasato (NU) def. Gee/Saisaurav Konakanchi (STMU) 7-6

Singles Competition:
1. Arthur Esteves Justo (NU) lost Jeremiah Gonzalez (STMU) 7-3, 6-1
2. Lauri Soome (NU) lost to Bojan Popovic (STMU) 0-6, 2-6
3. Blake Crawford (NU) vs. Louis Bonnay (STMU) 6-3, 5-5 (Unfinished)
4. Teodor Antelj (NU) lost to Jose Antelo (STMU) 4-6, 2-6
5. Szbin Pusztay (NU) lost to Alex Gee (STMU) 3-6, 2-6
6. Marcel Miasato (NU) vs. Brendan Brown (STMU) 6-4, 4-3 (Unfinished)
