PENSACOLA, Florida - The St. Mary's Women's Tennis squad fell 4-3 to West Florida University at Pensacola on Saturday morning at West Florida's home courts.
In doubles action the Lady Rattlers started out with high energy, and were able to clinch the doubles point after senior duo Alex Corder/ Ally Maciel cleaned up their opponents 6-1 on the No. 1 court. At the No. 3 doubles, freshmen Ashley Penshorn and senior Hannah Petersen clinched the doubles point in a close match, winning a touch battle 6-4 against opponents Heather Mixon and Valeria Mantilla.
After St. Mary's went up 1-0 clinching the doubles point, Corder gained a win for the Lady Rattlers at the No. 2 singles position, sweeping her opponent 6-2, 6-3. Unfortunately, courts 3, 5 and 6 fell in straight sets to West Florida. The Argonauts answered in singles play as the match came down to a third set on court four, tied 3-3. The match came down to senior Rani Goodland at court No. 4 in a tight battle against opponent Gabriela Araujo, playing for the clinch. Unfortunately, Goodland was unable to pull out the win, falling 6-2, 4-6, 4-6 to secure the win for West Florida 4-3.

The Rattlers play two home games at Anne-Marie Tennis Center on Friday, March 29 against Wisconsin-EAU Claire at 1:00 p.m. St. Mary's will also play on Saturday, March 30 in their first Heartland Conference matchup of the year, against Dallas Baptist University.
