@StMUbaseball shuts out Tarleton State in home opener

SAN ANTONIO — A big fifth inning helped St. Mary's Baseball cruise to a 7-0 shutout of regional rival Tarleton State in Friday's home opener at Dickson Stadium.
 
Keaton Milford blasted a two-run shot to help power a four-run fifth inning, which opened a 5-0 lead that the Rattlers (4-1) never relinquished.
 
Donnie Perez led the Snakes at the plate with a 3-for-4 showing, driving in two runs and scoring another. Leadoff hitter Derek Mueller added two more RBI on a 1-for-3 day.
 
Zach De La Garza dazzled on the mound, improving to 2-0 on the season with a two-hit, six-inning outing. De La Garza fanned seven and walked two on the day. Levi Hon closed the door on the Texans (1-3), striking out five over the final three innings to collect his first save of the season.
 
The Rattlers and Texans will wrap up the three-game series with Saturday's doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. at Dickson Stadium.
