SAN ANTONIO – Leading wire to wire for the third time in four games, the St. Mary's women's basketball team defeated the winless Texas A&M International Dust Devils, 72-35 on Thursday evening on the school's inaugural Faculty Appreciation Night.

The Rattlers (15-6, 5-4 Heartland Conference) outscored the Dust Devils (0-19, 0-7 Heartland) 33-12 in the first half and then 22-6 in the third quarter before the squads played an even 17-point fourth quarter. St. Mary's also dominated in rebounds, gathering 55 in the game, compared to just 34 for TAMI.

Senior Arysia Porter (San Antonio) led all players with her second double-double of the year, scoring 21 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, while sophomore Soteria Banks (Round Rock, Texas) scored 15 and sophomore Audrey Wandji (Houston, Texas) had a career-high 12 rebounds. Sophomore Hannah Wilson (Fredericksburg, Texas) also reached double figures in rebounds with 10. Porter also led the game with six assists and senior Crystal Thomas (San Antonio) had a game-best three steals.

Texas A&M International was led by Vanessa Oyola with nine points, while Christine Ortega narrowly missed a double-double with eight points and seven rebounds. Kendall Alsup had two blocked shots to lead the game, while Alliyah Bryant tied for game-high honors with three steals.

How It Happened
Seniors Kaitlin Walla (Georgetown, Texas) and Porter scored on back-to-back layups to get the scoring going for the Rattlers and they never looked back, leading for 38:05 of the 40 minutes in the game. The one tie was at 9-9 of the first quarter, but Banks hit a big three-pointer and senior Crystal Thomas (San Antonio) ended the quarter with a jumper to give the Rattlers the 15-9 advantage.

The Blue & Gold completely dominated the second quarter, out-scoring the Dust Devils 19-3. The Rattlers scored the first six points, with junior Alexia Torres (San Antonio), Wilson and Banks each scoring a bucket before International hit its lone basket of the stanza. St. Mary's closed the quarter on a 13-0 run with seven of those points coming from Porter and three each from Banks and sophomore Mya Culiver (Rockwall, Texas).

Banks began the third quarter with a three-pointer to stretch the scoring run out to 16 before the Dust Devils finally scored on a jumper to snap the streak. The Rattlers immediately went on another 13-point run to build a 35-point lead, 49-14 with 5:12 to play in the quarter behind the strength of two three-pointers by Porter, one by Walla and a pair of Torres' jumpers. After a TAMI jumper, the Rattlers scored six more for a 39-point lead. The Dust Devils made a pair of free throws to end the quarter with the 55-18 score.

International hit a three-pointer to begin the final stanza, but Porter and Banks scored on back-to-back plays for the 59-21 score. After two free throws for the Dust Devils, Thomas and Wilson sank consecutive layups for the largest lead of the game, 40-points. The teams remained even throughout the final six minutes and the Rattlers won by the final score of 72-35.
