Women's Tennis extinguishes Falcons, 7-0

ODESSA, Texas — The St. Mary's Women's Tennis team played at Permian Basin High School on Friday afternoon, earning a clean 7-0 sweep of University of Texas of the Permian Basin. 
 
The Rattlers started out by securing the doubles point with Ally Maciel/Alex Corder defeating M. Hoelting/A. Saint-Dizier 6-1 and Hannah Petersen/Ashley Penshorn defeating J.Madamba/J. Ramalho 6-3. 
 
In singles play, senior Ally Maciel took a 6-1, 6-2 victory over M. Ariza at the No. 1 position. Playing at the No. 2 position, senior Alex Corder defeated A. Saint-Dizier (6-2, 6-0). Freshman Ashley Penshorn captured a victory over M. Hoeltingin two sets as well, finishing with a score of 6-3, 6-0. 
 
"Our ladies bounced back from a heartbreaker a week ago," head coach Lisa Dausin said. "I believe a sleeping giant was awakened. Our season mantra is 'resilience,' and they certainly demonstrated it in Odessa.  They were challenged and rose to the occasion. It was astonishing to watch each of them refuse to relinquish even one solitary match to their opponents.  We will need that attitude and determination to carry us into next week's opponents on the road."

The Rattlers improve to 4-1 as they look to open the road portion of the season at Midwestern State at 1 p.m. on Feb. 28 in Wichita Falls, Texas.
