Women's Tennis takes care of business against Angelo State

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas — The St. Mary's Women's Tennis team defeated Angelo State, 6-1, at the Newcombe Country Club on Friday. 
 
The Rattlers dropped the doubles point in a close battle for the point after the Rams secured the No. 1 doubles and St. Mary's took No. 3 doubles behind Hannah Petersen and Ashley Penshorn, who got the win (6-1). But the Rattlers couldn't pull out the win on court No. 2, dropping the match (6-3).   
 
In singles action, Petersen, Penshorn and Rani Goodland swept their opponents in two sets each. Ally Maciel settled in for a long battle against Valentina Gonzalez at the No. 1 spot, winning (6-1) in the third. Bergman also battled it out, winning in three sets. Senior Alex Corder rallied to clinch the win in straight sets (7-5,6-4). 
 
"After losing the doubles point everyone went out with one thing in mind and got the job done with such determination and fight," Corder said. "I am so proud of the girls. Clinching for me was just icing on the cake."
