SAN ANTONIO — Serenaded by "MVP! MVP!" chants, Arysia Porter set the all-time single-game record in St. Mary's Women's Basketball history with a breath-taking, 38-point performance in Saturday's 94-78 victory over Oklahoma Christian.

Porter shot 16 of 23 from the floor and added 11 rebounds for her third double-double of the season, helping dig St. Mary's out of an early 13-point hole as the Rattlers struggled to get going out of the gate in the first quarter at Bill Greehey Arena.

"What a way for Arysia to end her home career," head coach Jason Martens said. "She refused to let us lose today and for her to break the school record on Senior Day was amazing."

Porter moved past Flavia Azinheira for No. 1 spot in the record books, topping Azinheira's 36-point performance against Ferris State on Nov. 26, 2005.

"She's had a great career," Martens added of Porter, "and I'm truly going to miss her."

Porter, a senior from San Antonio, was joined by fellow senior Kaitlin Walla in double figures, as Walla finished with 13 points on the day. Soteria Banks added 16 points, while Alexia Torres had a career-high 12 points in the victory. Crystal Thomas, one of three seniors honored on Senior Day prior to the game, scored five points.

With the win, the Rattlers (16-7, 5-5 in Heartland Conference) pulled even with Oklahoma Christian for third place in the league standings. And in the process, the Rattlers avenged a difficult loss on the road at Oklahoma Christian last month.

After being outscored 22-12 in the first quarter, St. Mary's roared back to outscore the Eagles by 12 in the second quarter to enter halftime leading 37-35.

The comeback began at the very end of the first quarter, as Mya Culiver drained a 20-foot 3-pointer at the buzzer to pull the Rattlers back within 10.

Porter then got going in the second quarter, scoring 13 of her game-high-tying 38 points in the frame. She dug deep into her bag of tricks, dazzling with her range from beyond the arc, mastery on the fast break and ability to finish even when drawing contact at the rim.

St. Mary's resurgence continued in the third quarter, outscoring the Eagles 34-24 in a wild quarter as the Rattlers went on to lead by as many as 17 points in the game.

The Snakes will now hit the road for the final three games of the regular season, starting with Thursday's showdown at Rogers State in Claremore, Oklahoma.

GAME NOTES: Porter moved into the No. 7 slot in career scoring with 1,313 points. She also moved into 10th all-time in made 3-pointers with 108 and in 3-point attempts with 338.
