Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Hands Hilltoppers First Conference Loss

SAN ANTONIO – Marlon Flores Flores found the back of the net in the 40th minute to propel the St. Mary's University Men's Soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Lone Star Conference foe, St. Edward's University on Saturday evening. The goal was Flores' first of the season.

The rivalry has traditionally been one-sided as the Hilltoppers have tallied 40 wins in the all-time series. Tonight's win for the Rattlers is just the second time in the previous 17 meetings they have earned a win. St. Mary's has now won two of the last three meetings between the programs.

St. Mary's moves to 5-2-1 on the year and 2-1 in conference action and hand the Hilltoppers their first conference loss.

The Rattlers remain unbeaten at home on the year.

How It Happened

In the 40th minute, the St. Edward's keeper made a diving stop on a Nenad Markovic shot but could not recover before Flores scored on the put-back to make it a 1-0 match in favor of the Rattlers.

Markovic got another chance in the 65th minute after a St. Edward's yellow card. The senior bent a ball around the Hilltopper wall and slid it just inside the far post to add a little insurance for the Rattlers.

Jacob Sayle did not see a lot of action as St. Edward's managed to put just one shot on frame the entire night.

UP NEXT

The Rattlers will start a six-game road trip next week as they travel to Eastern New Mexico and West Texas A&M.
