LUBBOCK, Texas – A late goal from the Chaps was the difference on Thursday afternoon as the St. Mary's University Women's Soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision on the road at Lubbock Christian.
The Chaps threatened all day as they fired 27 shots, 12 of them on frame, but Rattler goalkeeper
Erin Longford turned them away time-after-time until the 84
th minute when the Chaps scored the game-winner off a corner set piece. Longford finished the match with a career-high 11 saves.
St. Mary's attack struggled to find scoring opportunities against the Chaps, taking just four shots, two of which were on goal.
Alexia Maldonado and
Alexis Lawrence each had a shot on goal for the Rattlers.
The Rattlers will return to the pitch on Saturday as they take on the University of Texas Permian Basin in Odessa, Texas. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday.
