CANYON, Texas – For the third time this season, the St. Mary's University Men's Soccer team knocked off a ranked opponent. This time, the Rattlers took down the 22
nd ranked West Texas A&M Buffs in Canyon on Saturday afternoon.
Despite being outshot 20-12, the Rattlers left Canyon with a 3-1 victory to move to 7-2-1 and 4-1-0 in Lone Star Conference action.
Ollie Wright struck early as he took a pass from
Jesus Valenzuela and slipped it past the Buffs goalkeeper for the eventual game-winning goal in the 24
th minute.
Luis Sanchez added another goal to the board for the Rattlers in the 38
th minute to give St. Mary's a 2-0 heading into halftime.
Max De Leon converted a penalty kick on the 67
th minute to put St. Mary's in front, 3-0.
West Texas A&M avoided the shutout as they found the back of the net in the 89
th minute.
The Rattlers road trip continues next week as they take on DBU and UT Tyler.
