By Brian Magloyoan | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

SAN ANTONIO — In the home opener against UCCS, No. 12 St. Mary's earned a hard-fought 2-2 draw on Thursday night.

Trailing 1-0 in the 74th minute, Lewis Wilson equalized the match, converting on a penalty kick that was drawn by Luis Sanchez.

Exactly nine minutes later, the reigning Heartland Conference Offensive Player of the Week, Pato Botello Faz, gave the Rattlers the lead capitalizing on an assist from Wilson.

The lead would be short lived as Jake Demerath scored the equalizing goal in the 86th minute, forcing overtime where both teams would remain tied.

St. Mary's dominated possession throughout, shooting 15 more shots and placing eight more on frame than UCCS.

Ollie Wright placed two of his five shots on goal, both requiring extraordinary saves from UCCS keeper Scott Jensen.

Next week, the Rattlers will begin conference play at home against DBU.
