Rattlers finish road trip in Stephenville

By Brian Magloyoan | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

STEPHENVILLE, Texas — St. Mary's Volleyball ended its long three-week road trip with a pair of matches on Saturday against regional foes Texas A&M-Kingsville and No. 20 Tarleton State.

The Rattlers began the day dropping a thrilling, five-set match to the Javelinas who, four days earlier, defeated them in Kingsville.

Spearheaded by a match-high 19 kills from Alissa Tolbert, the Rattlers stole the opening game, 25-18. Dropping the next two sets, St. Mary's showed its resiliency. One of KK Payne's 14 kills set the stage for a fifth and deciding game.

In the deciding fifth set, the Rattlers were one point away from completing the comeback. After Channing Hankins put the Rattlers up 15-14, the Javelinas responded with three-straight points to take the match.

Later in the day, the Rattlers faced host No. 20 Tarleton State.

The TexAnns dominated throughout, defeating the Rattlers in straight sets. Hankins added six more kills to her totals while Perry logged 11 more assists in the loss.

On Tuesday, St. Mary's will return home and begin conference play against Texas A&M International at 7 p.m.
