St. Edward's takes Round 1 of 'Battle of the Saints'

AUSTIN, Texas — St. Edward's struck once in the first half and once more in the second half to take down St. Mary's Women's Soccer in Thursday's "Battle of the Saints" clash.
 
Jenna Lipscomb twice found the net for the Hilltoppers (1-2-1), as they battled off a St. Mary's (1-1-1) squad eyeing to even the score.
 
Alexia Maldonado led the Rattlers with four shot attempts, including two on goal. Miranda Narvaez attempted two shots, with one on goal, off the bench.
 
Erin Longford got the start in the net for St. Mary's, saving two shots in 45 minutes. Cameron Koerner added two more saves in the second half.
 
St. Edward's got on the board early, as Lipscomb scored from six yards out three minutes into the game. She struck again in the 64th minute. The Hilltoppers outshot the Rattlers 12-9 in the match.
 
St. Mary's will be back on the road Saturday, as the Rattlers take on DBU at 1 p.m. at the Patriot Soccer Field in Dallas, Texas. Links to live stats and the live stream are available on RattlerAthletics.com.
