LAS VEGAS, New Mexico — St. Mary's outlasted a late rally by New Mexico Highlands on Saturday, defeating the Cowgirls 3-2.
 
A Morgan Cave goal in the 51st minute was the difference as the Rattlers end the weekend with a 1-0-1 record.
 
Leah Whitaker began the scoring in the 27th minute, capitalizing on a loose ball in the box, depositing a shot to the top left corner.
 
Victoria Villasenor netted a penalty kick in the 50th minute to give the Rattlers the 2-1 lead before assisting on Cave's important insurance goal a minute later.
 
The Rattlers will return to the pitch on Thursday when they face Our Lady of the Lake in the annual meeting for the Halo Cup.
