@StMUvolleyball ends opening weekend victorious

SAN ANGELO, Texas — St. Mary's ending the opening weekend of the season with a straight-set victory over New Mexico Highlands.
 
After dropping the opening match of the day to Texas A&M-Kingsville, the Rattlers responded behind a strong outing from Haley Bradfute who posted a match-high 19 assists, 15 digs and four aces.
 
Mackenzie Harless was a force at the net with seven blocks as Lauren Martinez posted eight kills.
 
In the second set the Snakes faced adversity, trailing 24-23, until three unanswered points from Channing Hankins, Julia Deais and Alissa Tolbert gave the Rattlers a 2-0 lead in the match.
 
The day began with a disappointing 3-1 loss against Texas A&M-Kingsville. Despite 12 kills from Hankins and 27 assists from Bradfute, the Rattlers struggled to recover from a two-set disadvantage.
 
The Rattlers ended the Kathleen Brasfield Invitational with a 2-2 record and now set their sights on the home opener on Sept. 4 against Our Lady of the Lake.
