Rattlers grounded by Jets

WICHITA, Kansas — The struggles on the road continued for St. Mary's on Friday as the Rattlers dropped a doubleheader against Newman.
 
A pair of hits each from Abigale Carney and Marcela Vasquez was the only offense that the Rattlers could produce as they were shutout in the opener, 1-0.
 
Despite the loss, Alex McLennan tossed six strong innings, allowing only one run on five hits.
 
In the nightcap, the Rattlers crossed the plate twice, striking for a run in the third inning off a sac fly from Alex Moreno.
 
Trailing 3-1 in the fourth inning, Vasquez blasted a solo home run to center field to cut into the deficit.
 
A four-run fifth inning for the Jets put the game away, handing the Rattlers their sixth loss in a row.
 
The teams will finish the weekend series on Saturday at the NU Softball Field.
