Softball handed series sweep by Newman

WICHITA, Kansas — Newman completed the series sweep of St. Mary's Softball on Saturday, defeating the Rattlers 11-3 in six innings in frigid conditions.
 
The Jets broke open a 4-3 game with seven runs in the sixth inning to complete the three-game sweep.
 
With the loss, St. Mary's dropped to 27-19 on the season and 15-7 in Heartland Conference play. The loss also cut the Rattlers' lead in the league standings to a half game over Lubbock Christian (15-8).
 
Alex Moreno and Kristal Salinas led the Rattlers with one RBI apiece, while Salinas also added two runs scored. The Rattlers recorded four hits in the game.
