Cardiac Kids walk-off twice, stay undefeated in conference

By Brian Magloyoan | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

SAN ANTONIO — Late-game magic was once again on display at The Park at St. Mary's on Friday.

On two separate occasions, Hannah Michel stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning with the game on the line. And both times, the senior delivered as St. Mary's pushed its win-streak to 11 games following a pair of walk-off wins against conference rival Lubbock Christian.

After being held scoreless through the first six innings of Game 1, a base-hit from Michel sparked the two runs that pushed the Rattlers past the Lady Chaps by a final of 2-1.

The Rattlers received a strong outing from Staci Johns in the circle as the sophomore began the game by retiring the first 10 batters she faced. She would finish by tossing another complete game, winning her fourth straight start.

In the nightcap, with the game tied 1-1 in the bottom of the seventh, Michel drove home the winning run on a base hit up the middle.

Alessandra Ortiz began the inning with a single to left field, as she finished the game going 2-for-3 at the plate.

A sacrifice bunt by Taylor Germain and an Angie Camacho ground out set the stage for Michel to collect her second hit of the day.

Hope Russell pitched a complete game as she retired 20 of the 28 batters she faced, improving her season record to 8-2.

Tomorrow the Rattlers will look to complete the series sweep of the Lady Chaps when the teams play at noon.
