Softball splits Day 2 of CMU Invitational

RIO RANCHO, New Mexico — Rattler Softball split a pair of games on Day 2 of the Colorado Mesa Invitational, picking up its third shutout victory of the season.
 
Led by Hope Russell, Hannah Michel and Kristal Salinas, the Rattlers erupted in a 13-0 victory over Adams State.
 
Hope Russell (2-0) tossed a no-hitter, retiring 15 of the 19 batters she faced as the Rattler offense backed her efforts.
 
Michel finished the ballgame 2-for-2 at the plate with three RBI and two runs scored as Salinas went 2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored.
 
Freshman Abigale Carney would also record multiple hits as she picked up a pair of singles.
 
Earlier in the day, the Rattlers were met with a Texas A&M-Commerce team that clicked offensively, as they fell 8-2.
 
Taylor Germain ended the game with a pair of hits in a 2-for-2 performance from the plate as Abigale Carney and Alex McLennan each recorded extra base hits.
 
Carney would score in the 4th inning following a McLennan double down the right field line.
 
The Rattlers will wrap up the Colorado Mesa Invitational tomorrow against the host Mavericks at 10 a.m.
