Rattlers run past Saints to take doubleheader

By Chad Peters | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

SAN ANTONIO — The Rattler bats picked up where they left off Thursday, routing Our Lady of the Lake in a pair of victories Friday at Dickson Stadium.

St. Mary's took a doubleheader 17-6 and 9-4, riding the red-hot bats of Patrick Fennell and Jacob Aguilar for its fourth and fifth consecutive victories.

In the opener, Fennell and Aguilar each went 3 for 3 at the plate, complementing the quality outing on the rubber from Zach De La Garza (2-0). De La Garza fanned seven over five innings, giving way to Quinton Smithwick and Mason Minister after hitting the 120-pitch mark.

St. Mary's was just as efficient at the plate, notching 17 runs on 16 hits. It marked the Rattlers' most runs at home since scoring 17 against Arkansas Tech on Feb. 4 of last year.

The Snakes broke open Game 1 with an eight-run third inning, as shortstop Nick Galaviz jump started the inning with a two-RBI single down the left-field line.

In Game 2, Fennell and Aguilar were back at it again, as each went 2 for 4. Aguilar had two RBI with a run scored, while Fennell added two RBI in the victory.

Cole Hybner picked up the victory after pitching four scoreless innings of relief.

The Rattlers actually trailed 4-3 before putting up a five-spot in the fifth inning.

Bryce Brandl had two RBI, while Angel Vega scored three runs. Andrew Perez went 3 for 5 with a pair of runs scored.
