Volleyball places 4 on All-Heartland Team

SAN ANTONIO — St. Mary's Volleyball placed four student-athletes on the All-Heartland Conference Team, it was announced by the league.

Leading the way were a trio of First-Team selections in outside hitter Alissa Tolbert (Fr., San Antonio), setter Bree Perry (Jr., Houston, Texas) and outside hitter Channing Hankins (Sr., Katy, Texas). Outside hitter KK Payne (Jr., New Braunfels, Texas) also earned recognition on the All-Heartland Honorable Mention Team.

Tolbert, who went on to be named to the All-Tournament Team at the Heartland Conference Championship, had a spectacular freshman season for the Rattlers, leading the squad in points (342.5) and service aces (34). She totaled 290 kills on the season, averaging 2.93 per set. Defensively, she added 267 digs — 2.70 per set — to rank third on the team.

Perry once again led the team in assists, totaling 708 on the season with 6.94 per set. She added 38 points on the season to go along with 276 digs (2.71 per set). She was second on the team in digs, and led the squad in sets played at 102.

Hankins led the Rattlers in kills with 300 and was one of the team's more efficient players with a .191 hitting percentage. She ranked No. 2 on the team in points (323), averaging 3.17 per set. She equaled Perry for a team-high 102 sets played en route to collecting her 1,000^th career kill this season. Hankins was also a First-Team All-Conference selection in 2017.

Payne was dynamic in her first season donning the gold and blue, averaging 2.64 kills and 2.86 points over 86 sets. She played in 27 matches, starting 22 of them. She also added 143 digs defensively with an average of 1.66 per set.
