SAN ANTONIO – It was a tale of two halves for both the St. Mary's and Colorado School of Mines men's basketball teams on Saturday evening in the finale of the Heartland-RMAC Crossover Classic, as the Orediggers defeated the host Rattlers, 61-56 inside Bill Greehey Arena.

Both senior forward Petar Radojicic (Ljubovija, Serbia) and senior guard Skylar Brooks (Seguin, Texas) scored 13 points to lead the Rattlers, while senior guard Dimiti Peterson (San Antonio) tied for game-high honors with seven rebounds and two steals. Freshman guard Caleb Jordan (Midlothian, Texas) had a game-high three assists and three different players blocked a shot.

The Rattlers shot just .368 for the game and .286 (4-for-14) from the three-point line. They also struggled from the free throw line, making just 10-of-16 for a .625. In the first half, StMU made 3-of-7 from beyond the arc and hit 4-of-6 free throws, but in the second half, made just 1-of-7 of its triples and 6-of-10 from the charity stripe. Conversely, CSM shot .365 from the field for the contest and .250 from the three point line (4-for-16), but was a solid .864 (19-for-22) from the free throw line. In the Orediggers first half, they failed to make a three-pointer, going 0-for-5, but made all seven free throws, but heated up in the second half, sinking 4-for-11 (.364) from the arc and making 12-of-15 free throws.

Brendan Sullivan led Mines with 18 points, while Ben Sonnefeld scored 15 and Mason Baker added 10. Ben Clare grabbed seven rebounds and Sonnefeld had two assists.

The two teams traded baskets over the first four minutes of the game, but after the first media timeout Brooks made a free throw that sparked a 6-0 run, where freshman Dylan Isenhower (Abilene, Texas) had all five of his points on the night. CSM scored three on an and-one play to cut the lead in half, 10-7 at the under 12 media timeout. Each team went on mini four-point runs before the Rattlers used an 8-0 run to build their largest lead of the night, 22-11 with 4:29 on the clock. In the run junior guard Markques Houston, junior forward Lamont Traylor, Radojicic and Jordan each scored two. CSM closed the half on a 10-3 run for the 27-23 halftime score.

The Orediggers then scored the first four points of the second half to erase the 11-point deficit. Jordan and Radojicic hit back-to-back baskets to build another four-point lead for the Rattlers, and the Blue & Gold held the lead until 35-35 at the 13:25 mark. The Orediggers took the lead on a deep three-pointer, but back-to-back baskets by Radojicic gave the lead right back to StMU, 39-38 with 10:49 to play. The last lead for the Rattlers was 49-48 with 6:20 after a Radojicic basket in the paint. CSM would never lead by more than five points the remainder of the game.

St. Mary's returns to the court on Wednesday at Texas A&M Kingsville at 7:00 p.m. and returns home to host the River City Classic on Friday, November 23, hosting Talladega at 7:30 p.m.
