@StMUvolleyball finds magic in epic encounter with Lions

FORT SMITH, Arkansas — For the first time since capturing the Heartland Conference Championship at the Stubblefield Center a year ago, St. Mary's returned to face UAFS in an anticipated rematch.
 
A marathon opening game set the tone for the remainder of the match between St. Mary's and UAFS on Saturday as the Rattlers defeated the Lions 3-1.
 
Taking the opening game 33-31, the Rattlers staved off four game points for the Lions.
 
After taking the second set 25-12 in convincing fashion, the Rattlers would finish the match 25-21 in the fourth set.
 
The Rattlers rode the efforts of KK Payne who recorded a match-high 21 kills. Freshman Alissa Tolbert posted 15 kills of her own to go along with 21 digs.
 
Bree Perry and Haley Bradfute once again paced the Rattlers offensively with Perry logging 24 assists and Bradfute with 23.
 
Thursday, the Rattlers will return home to host St. Edward's in the Battle of the Saints at 7 p.m.
