LUBBOCK, Texas — St. Mary's Men's Basketball couldn't overcome a strong first half from Lubbock Christian on Saturday, falling to the Chaps 80-49 at the Rip Griffin Center.
Juwan Green led the way for the Rattlers with 13 points and three assists, while Will Ferguson added 11 points in defeat.
St. Mary's (5-9, 1-2 in Heartland Conference) battled hard in the second half, losing the frame 37-32. But the damage was already done in the first half, as the Chaps reeled off a 43-17 halftime lead to take control of the contest.
LCU (6-9, 2-2) shot 53.33 percent from the floor in the half, connecting on 16 of 30 shots from the floor, including 5 of 9 from 3-point range. The Rattlers couldn't match that pace, shooting 29.8 percent from the floor and just 22.2 percent from beyond the arc.
St. Mary's bench contributed 30 of its 49 points in the game.
The Rattlers will return home after playing five straight on the road during the Christmas break when they host Newman at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Bill Greehey Arena. The game will be streamed online via the Rattler Network on the Heartland Conference Digital Network.
