Rattlers top Jets in double OT classic

SAN ANTONIO — Double overtime was on the menu as St. Mary's outlasted Newman 99-94 on Thursday night at Bill Greehey Arena.
 
The Rattlers' execution down the stretch of the ball game was the difference as they outscored the Jets 18-13 in the second overtime.
 
A pair of double-doubles from Juwan Green and Skyler Brooks helped the Rattlers improve to 2-2 in Heartland Conference play.
 
Green finished with 30 points and 10 rebounds while Brooks posted 13 points and 10 boards.
 
In the first overtime period, Green put the Rattlers ahead 81-80 with 10 seconds left following a three-point play.
 
After the Jets' Dametrius Walker split a pair of free throws on the ensuing possession, Green nearly won the game, only to have the potential game-winning layup spin out as the clock expired.
 
Trailing by as many as 16 in the first half, the Rattlers responded with a strong second half, taking the lead late in the ballgame.
 
Will Ferguson poured in 17 points, grabbing seven boards as Petar Radojicic posted 14 points and seven rebounds.
 
Next for the Rattlers, they will host Oklahoma Christian on Saturday at 7 p.m. with the game being televised on KCWX Channel 2 local television.
