Benavides’ buzzer-beater caps memorable night

SAN ANTONIO — "At the buzzer, Robbie Benavides!"
 
Mike Lefko of KCWX channel 2 exclaimed as the St. Mary's guard lifted the Rattlers to a 70-67 victory over Oklahoma Christian on Saturday night with a game with a game-ending three from the corner.
 
Playing in the first televised game in recent history of the men's basketball program, the Rattlers delivered with a dramatic victory.
 
Leading by as many as 11 late in the second half, the St. Mary's seemed poised to end the week a perfect 2-0. But with 1:51 left in the ballgame, the Snakes conceded 10 unanswered points, bringing the game to a deadlock at 67-67 before Benavides' game-winning heroics.
 
The redshirt senior would finish the game with a double-double, scoring a season-high 15 points while grabbing 10 rebounds. Additionally, Benavides was a perfect 5-5 from the floor, making all five of his shot attempts—three of which came from behind the arc.
 
Petar Radojicic added another double-double to his growing portfolio of performances with 17 points and 12 rebounds as Juwan Green and Skyler Brooks each scored double figures with Green notching 11 points and five assists.
