Red-hot Rattlers battle #4 St. Edward's to draw

By Chad Peters | St. Mary's Athletics Communications

AUSTIN, Texas — Rachel Gurinsky's equalizer Thursday afternoon helped lead St. Mary's Women's Soccer to a 1-1 tie against No. 4-ranked St. Edward's.

Gurinsky scored off a pass from Roxy Cruz Santory on a breakaway shot to the right side in the 53rd minute at Lewis-Chen Field.

The timely goal accompanied a fantastic defensive effort, as goalkeeper Erin Longford and the Rattlers' defense staved off an aggressive Hilltopper (6-0-3, 4-0-2) attack that outshot the Rattlers (6-3-1, 3-2-1)  25-9. Longford recorded eight saves in the contest.

Gurinsky and Kaitlyn Judge led the Rattlers with two shots apiece. For Gurinsky, it marked her second goal of the season.

The red-hot Rattlers are 3-0-1 over their last four games.

St. Mary's will be back on the pitch Saturday, taking on DBU at 2:30 p.m. from Patriot Soccer Field in Dallas, Texas.
