Women's Tennis opens fall season with a smash

SEGUIN, Texas — St. Mary's Women's Tennis had a smashing start to the fall season at the Texas Lutheran Invitational.

Rani Goodland's Rattler debut was a great way to start the season, cruising her way to the final of her flight after winning her first two matches 6-2, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-0. Goodland's final match was a classic Battle of the Saints, coming out on top with a 4-6, 7-6 (2), 11-9 victory against St. Edward's Guillen.

Kaylin Kruseman and Ally Maciel took over their flight, with both wining all their matches. Kruseman won 6-4, 6-0 and later 6-1, 6-2, before winning her final match 6-1, 6-3. Maciel won her first match 6-2, 6-3, battled to the win in her second 5-7, 6-2, 16-14 and found her stride in the second set of her third match by winning 7-6, 6-1.

Tyra Timm and Alex Corder found great success in their flight. Timm was in great form and won her first two matches 6-0, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-0. Corder's first singles appearance as a Rattler proved well as she won all three matches. She won the first 6-1, 6-4, prevailed in the second match 6-3, 6-4 and later fought hard for a 6-2, 7-5 victory.

Hannah Petersen and freshman Abby Csengery paved the way to victory, winning all their matches. Petersen fought a hard first match, winning 1-6, 6-3, 10-6. She found her stride in the second with a 6-1, 6-1 win and battled out one more three-set match for a 6-1, 1-6, 10-6 victory.

Csengery came out strong in her first matches as a Rattler, winning her first 6-2, 6-0, prevailing in the next round 6-3, 6-1, and won her last match 6-0, 6-1.

The Rattler women also commanded their doubles matches.

Ally Maciel teamed up with Alex Corder to win all three matches 8-2. All- Americans Kaylin Kruseman and Tyra Timm won their first two matches 8-4, 8-6, and had a close final after overcoming the St. Edward's duo 9-7. Petersen and Goodland won their semifinal 8-0.
